Dublin has a proud literary tradition, and this is celebrated at the Dublin Writers Museum. Based at 18 Parnell Square, Dublin 1, this facility opened in 1991 to house a historical record of the great contribution Ireland has made to the literary world. The Dublin Writers Museum is situated in a great 18th century mansion in the north city centre, and focuses on the literary achievements of Irish writers over the last three hundred years including four Nobel prize winners. Swift, Shaw, Wilde, Yeats, Joyce and Beckett are amongst those commemorated at the museum with exhibits of their work, letters, portraits & personal items on show. Opening hours at the Dublin Writers Museum are 1000-1700hrs Monday to Saturday & 1100-1700 on Sundays and public holidays. During the Summer months, the museum stays open until 1800hrs on weekdays. Admission is E6.50 for adults and E4 for children. Tours are available in French, Italian, Spanish, German & Japanese. There is also a coffee shop, restaurant, and of course a book shop on site!
