National Gallery Dublin - The Dublin National Gallery

he National Gallery of Ireland is located at Merrion Square West & Clare Street, Dublin 2. This history of The National Gallery goes back to 1854 when it was brought into existence by an Act of Parliament. The doors opened to the public in the beginning of 1864. Today, the collection of the National Gallery consists of over 12000 exhibits including works of sculpture and multimedia as well, of course as a great number of paintings, drawings, watercolours and prints. Every major school of painting in Europe can be enjoyed at the National Gallery, as well as a permanent display focusing on Irish pieces. Visit the Yeats Museum which houses works by Jack B Yeats, renowned Irish arits, and father of WB Yeats. There is also a Millenium Wing, celebrating 1000 years of Dublin. Opening hours are 0930-1730hrs Monday to Saturday with late opening until 2030hrs on Thursdays. On Sundays, the gallery is open from 1200-1730hrs. Admission to the permanent collection is free; when a special exhibition is on display, an admission charge may be in place.
