Phoenix Park Dublin

The Phoenix Park in Dublin 8 (a short bus ride from the city centre) is said to be the largest municipal park in the world. Consisting of 1752 acres, it is home to the President of Ireland whose residence is referred to in Irish as Aras an Uachtarain. The public are admitted on Saturdays only to view the house and its grounds, Admission is free but tickets must be obtained at The Phoenix Park Visitor centre on the day you wish to visit. Guided tours are also offered. For more information, log on to http://www.president.ie.

The Phoenix Park is home to a variety of wildlife including deer, foxes and rabbits. A fascinating exhibition on the wildlife of the park as well as its history going back thousands of years is offered at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre. Adjoining the Visitor Centre is restored Ashtown Castle which is well worth a look. Admission to the castle is only allowed as part of a guided tour.
