Dublin Zoo

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006
Located in the lovely Phoenix Park on Dublin’s northside, Dublin Zoo is the most popular tourist attraction in Ireland, and it offers a fantastic day out for all the family. This large zoo is divided into fascinating sections such as ‘The Fringes of the Artic’, ‘The African Plains’ and ‘World of Primates’. Children and adult’s favourite animals all inhabit the zoo: from hippos to tigers, orang-utans to giraffes. Dublin Zoo also places strong emphasis on conservation as it holds the European studbooks for the likes of Golden Lion Tamarins and Moluccan Cockatoos. The zoo is also involved in international conservation and education efforts, such as offering alternatives to the Bushmeat trade.

Busking

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006
Ireland is famed for its wonderful creative output, and this is certainly apparent on the streets of Dublin. The city streets are constantly treated to the music of buskers, performing in countless styles. Although busking is illegal in Dublin, this is rarely enforced, and it has become a popular way for struggling musicians to earn money and gain an audience. Many of the country’s top-selling artists such as alternative rock group, The Frames and modern trad-band Kila, began their careers by busking on Grafton Street. Occasionally, lucky passers-by may still catch these artists giving a special busking performance. Music is not the only art form used by buskers; Dublin is home to busking mimes, painters, comedians, poets and dancers.
